The FINTECH Circle Summer Drinks 2026 brought together an outstanding group of fintech CEOs, founders, investors, board members, and senior industry leaders for an evening of insightful discussions, meaningful networking, and shared experiences at the headquarters of Crown Agents Bank in London.

As one of FINTECH Circle’s flagship community events, the evening celebrated the strength of the fintech ecosystem while exploring one of the industry’s most important topics: how fintech companies can successfully scale and prepare for exit opportunities.

The evening featured keynote presentations from two highly accomplished fintech leaders who shared practical insights from both corporate and entrepreneurial perspectives.

James Hopkinson – CFO, Crown Agents Bank

James Hopkinson introduced attendees to the role Crown Agents Bank plays in enabling the global fintech ecosystem. His presentation demonstrated how regulated banking infrastructure continues to be a critical foundation for innovative financial technology companies.

Key highlights included:

  • Foreign exchange and cross-border payment capabilities reaching over 190 countries.
  • Access to an extensive network of correspondent banks, liquidity providers, and regional banking partners.
  • A single API enabling seamless cross-currency payment workflows for fintech businesses.
  • The value of partnering with a UK-regulated banking institution authorised by both the PRA and FCA, providing security and confidence for scaling fintechs.

His session highlighted the growing importance of reliable banking infrastructure in helping fintech companies expand internationally while maintaining regulatory confidence.

Building PrimaryBid: Lessons from a Successful Fintech Exit

Anand Sambasivan , Co-Founder and CEO of PrimaryBid, shared the remarkable journey of building one of the UK’s most recognised fintech success stories.

Reflecting on the company’s recent acquisition by SoFi, Anand discussed the realities of building a high-growth fintech through changing market conditions, including periods when geopolitical uncertainty effectively closed IPO markets across the world.

He also reflected on PrimaryBid’s mission to democratise capital markets by allowing retail investors to participate in IPOs, an opportunity that had traditionally been reserved for institutional investors. As global IPO activity continues to recover, Anand highlighted why increasing retail participation will become even more important in the years ahead.

His candid insights into resilience, long-term thinking, and adapting to market cycles resonated strongly with founders navigating today’s fundraising and growth environment.

Panel Discussion: Preparing Fintech Scale-ups for Exit

The keynote presentations were followed by an engaging panel discussion featuring:

  • Anand Sambasivan (PrimaryBid)
  • Hayley Thompson , Partner, Financial Services M&A and UK Head of Fintech at Deloitte

The discussion focused on one of the most important strategic questions facing growth-stage fintech companies: how founders should prepare for a successful exit long before formal discussions begin.

Hayley Thompson shared valuable advice on:

  • Building organisational readiness from an early stage.
  • Establishing strong governance structures.
  • Developing relationships with strategic partners and potential acquirers.
  • Evaluating both IPO and trade sale opportunities through a dual-track approach to maximise long-term value.

The panel reinforced that successful exits are rarely the result of short-term planning—they are built through years of preparation, strategic decision-making, and strong execution.

The Power of the FINTECH Circle Community

Beyond the presentations, the evening provided attendees with valuable opportunities to connect with fellow entrepreneurs, investors, board professionals, and fintech executives in an open and collaborative environment.

Events like the FINTECH Circle Summer Drinks reflect the organisation’s commitment to creating meaningful connections across the fintech ecosystem, bringing together experienced leaders who openly share insights, opportunities, and practical advice that help the entire community grow.

We extend our sincere thanks to James Hopkinson, Anand Sambasivan, Hayley Thompson, and Crown Agents Bank for hosting such an inspiring evening, and to every member of the FINTECH Circle community whose participation made the event such a success.
